This record came about because Jordan Martins, who curates the Relax Attack jazz series at The Whistler, gave me a gig. He offered me an open night to put together a group of my choosing. As often is the case, the opportunity gave an impetus to start a new project, and to write new music. I was psyched.

Picking the musicians you'll hear was easy. I have played for many years with close friends Tim Daisy(drums), and Dave Miller(guitar), in both The Falling Leaves, and as a stand-in for Tim's New Fracture Quartet. In fact, we played Tim's "Cowboy Song", in both groups. They are both amazing, adaptive, and open-minded musician/composers. I have learned so much from them. I heard Nick Mazzarella play a number of times, and was blown away by his concept, and his power sonically.

I am very grateful for these guys.

Conceptually, I wanted to mix elements of free improvisation within a long form structure, and to have the improvisations themselves become an intregal part of the form. I gave myself parameters, themes, and key centers from which to work. At times when I listen back, I have no idea what the hell I was doing. I wanted the piece to be process oriented.

The end result is experimental by nature. I hope you enjoy, and thanks!
